Group Advocating For More Women In Politics Says Progress Is Being Made

This provincial election has 93 women out of the 231 candidates, but that isn’t good enough, according to one group.

It is known as Women for 50% and that is what it was hoping for when it comes to women candidates.

Spokesperson Norma Dube says, however, they are emboldened by the fact there has been a 10 percent increase since the last election was held and that should bode well for the future.

“We don’t have any scientific numbers but from my perspective just the conversation and the public awareness that we have created in the last 18 months or so around the need to have more women in politics, I think that message has been heard,” stated Dube.

The NDP is the only party running at least 50 percent women, in fact, 25 of the 49 candidates are women.
