City Of Moncton To Study Possibility Of Making East End Pool Deeper

Moncton City Council addressed the contentious East End Pool depth issue at their Committee of the Whole meeting Monday.

This came up after news broke last week the pool would only be slightly over one metre deep in the deep end, which surprised many residents and politicians alike.

Mayor Dawn Arnold says staff were directed to provide analysis later this week, or early next week about options to make the pool deeper.

“What could happen if we increased the depth in the deep end of the 25 metre pool in the lane part of it to 1.5 metres instead of 1.15 metres,” says Arnold.

She says that isn’t going to stop construction, with the company continuing to “work on the site, but it will be more on the periphery of the actual pool.”

Arnold added council was told seven months ago about the 1.15 metre depth at a meeting on February 12th.

Last week, several city councillors expressed surprise about the 1.15 metre depth, adding they had all been under the impression the new pool would be a replacement for the previous pool, and not this altered version.
