Foster Homes Needed For Greyhounds

Almost 1100 greyhounds have found homes in Canada, thanks to the Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program.

They are preparing to bring another load from the United States next month, and are in need of foster homes.

President Deb Levasseur says this is open to everyone, whether you have a greyhound or not.

“We fully prepare the families and provide what they need in the way of supplies and expenses. It is a great experience, and it is a won-win because people are helping a dog and helping to get them into a good home,” Levasseur says.

Levasseur says the fosters will get the choice to adopt the dog, or have it go to another forever home.

“We get a lot of people that are not greyhound owners or who have never owned a greyhound before. Some are even first time dog owners,” Levasseur adds.

They are currently in need of ten foster homes for dogs arriving September 8th.

Levasseur says, “The dog is usually in foster care from two weeks to a month. It could be as long as two months, but it’s usually two to three weeks and then we find their forever home.”
