Fredericton’s police chief is responding to criticism over the lack of information being released about last week’s fatal shooting.
Leanne Fitch said in a statement they have been accused by some media of being “tight-lipped” and not providing certain details to the public.
“In some ways, that’s true and it’s important that you know why,” Fitch said.
The chief said the investigation is still ongoing and they need to protect the integrity of it and the upcoming court case.
“As with any criminal investigation, we cannot make assumptions or let rumours and speculation direct us,” Fitch said. “We must deal with facts and evidence.”

Matthew Vincent Raymond, 48, of Fredericton is charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Const. Lawrence Robert Costello, 45, Const. Sara Mae Helen Burns, 43, Donald Adam Robichaud, 42, and Bobbie Lee Wright, 32.
Fitch said they also want all the answers but there are some things they simply do not know yet, which is why the investigation is continuing.
She said they are going to get those answers but they need to do it right — and that means being patient and thorough.
“Four of our citizens had their lives taken from them. They all have families and friends who loved and cared for them,” Fitch said.
“We all want to make sense of this.”
