Hundreds Of Ball Players In Greater Moncton For Canada Cup

Over 200 baseball players, along with their coaches and families are taking the field in Greater Moncton this week as a part of the Canada Cup.

There are 10 teams taking part, one from each province.

Chairman Mike Doucet says many of the players, who are 17 years and under, are hoping to get noticed during the tournament, “Players come to this tournament to try and get a scout for college basically. They hope to go on to College or University to play ball. They are the best 17 year olds in the country. The smaller provinces are allowed to carry two 18 year old players to help the competition, but it is the best ball at that level.”

Rain has put a bit on a damper on the games being played at Kiwanis Park and in Dieppe today.

Doucet says the Cup was supposed to wrap up on Sunday, but due to today’s rain, they also have Monday to play, if needed.

The last time the Cup was played in Moncton, was in 2011, and Doucet says they’ve been working on the 2018 event for a couple of years, “Two years ago, I got together with the Coach and we decided we wanted to host the vent in Moncton. We had to put together a bid for Baseball Canada and it was awarded to us. next year, I believe it is headed for Saskatchewan.”
