UPDATED: The Province Consider Legal Options Around The Opioid Crisis

The Gallant government is considering launching its own or taking part in a lawsuit related to the harmful effects of opioids and the resulting costs and impacts for New Brunswickers.

Health Minister Benoit Bourque was asked if New Brunswick can take this on alone or if other provincial governments are asking the province to join.

“It is a known fact that other jurisdictions are doing the same thing we are doing both in Canada and the United States.” Bourque added, “I apologize to overuse this expression but ‘everything is on the table’.”

According the province, at least 241 people have died from accidental opioid overdoses in the past 11 years in this province and across Canada, 2800 people died across the country in 2016.
