Another Closure To Fishing Begins Sunday in Grand Manan

Two right whales have been spotted in Grand Manan leading to another fisheries closure.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada issuing a notice to harvesters about a temporary fisheries closure in the Grand Manan critical habitat area because of the presence of two North Atlantic right whales.

The closure begins at 6 pm Sunday night and will impact the current open season for herring, mackerel and lobster.

All fishing gear has to be removed before the closure starts and it will stay in effect until further notice.

Using a variety of platforms and tools, Conservation and Protection fishery officers will be enforcing the closures.

If the area is re-opened for fishing, DFO will let everyone know prior to the reopening.
