The Maritime Fishermen’s Union is welcoming the new Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Jonathan Wilkinson takes on the role, after yesterday’s cabinet shuffle.
The MP for North Vancouver replaces Beausejour MP Dominic Leblanc who has been promoted to minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Northern Affairs and Internal Trade.
MFU says Wilkinson will face several complex issues including co-existence between fishermen and the North Atlantic right whale, but they look forward to working with him.
They union says their hope is to arrange a meeting with the new Minister to discuss the management of various fishing plans for the future.
