Second Mile Food Bank In Need Of A Van

A non profit organization that relies on its vehicle to transport food from place to place, is putting out a plea to the public.

The Second Mile Food Bank’s 18 year old mini van didn’t pass inspection this year, and it will cost too much to fix.

Board Chairman Darren Murray says without a van, they can’t run a food bank, “Often times we have to pick up food in different locations, mostly in Dieppe, but a couple of locations in the Moncton area as well. We also go to Food Depot Alimentaire, that is really our lifeline.”

Murray says they do have a second vehicle, but it is older than 18 years, and very big and is very hard on gas.

Being non-profit organization, they have little in the way of funds to purchase a new vehicle, “We have very limited amounts of capital that we can go out and buy something new. We’re not looking for something brand spanking new, we are looking for something used, something reasonable,” Murray says.
