Maritime Bus Owner Fears Ripple Effects From Greyhound Cuts

Greyhound’s decision to scrap bus service in a big chunk of western Canada and in Northern Ontario is having impacts at the other end of the country.

The owner of Maritime Bus is concerned about the impact on the east coast and how people and parcels move across the country.

Mike Cassidy tells our newsroom everything moves between different bus companies starting in Atlantic Canada and eventually reaching Greyhound in Montreal for the trek out west.

“It’s seamless. And that’s the beauty of what we have today and as soon as you lose a big player, the seamless co-ordinated effort of moving passengers and parcels is gone.” Cassidy says.

Cassidy believes they need a group of stakeholders and government representatives to get around a table quickly and identify options.

He calls the business model of Greyhound “old fashioned” adding you have to be leaner and meaner as an organization.
