Slew Of Funding Announcements Not Linked To Election: Gallant

A flurry of funding announcements in recent weeks and months by the provincial government have many people thinking they could be linked to September’s provincial election.

Speaking in Saint John, Premier Brian Gallant threw cold water on that theory.

“I can understand that some people would think because there’s an election coming that what we’re doing is geared towards that,” says Gallant. “I can tell people of the province that we are governing this province, we’re not going to stop governing for a few months because the campaign is coming.”

“I mean, we were elected with a four-year mandate and we’re going to continue to make strategic investments to grow our economy, strengthen education and improve health care for every single day of that mandate.”

Gallant says the technical answer is they find themselves in the middle of a fiscal year and that means investments will be made in the next few weeks and months.
