The New Brunswick Medical Society says emergency room wait times need to be addressed.
President Dr. Dharm Singh says long ER wait times are related to an even larger problem of access to primary care.
“So suppose a patient does not have a family doctor, or if the patient has a family doctor but cannot access them in appropriate time, then what the patient is going to do is go to emergency.”
For many patients, Singh says the ER is the only option they have to access the care they need, adding there are 44,000 New Brunswickers without a family doctor.
