Credit Union Experiment Highlights Honesty Of Atlantic Canadians

Atlantic Credit Unions did a bold experiment just before Christmas to show the honesty and trust shared by Atlantic Canadians.

Margery Nichol is general manager of NBTA Credit Unions and says they hid 12 wallets that included ID, a Credit Union debit card and even $100 cash through the four Atlantic provinces to see how many they would get back.

Nichol says the results were amazing with nine coming back just as they were lost, with cash included.

She says a video was made and some of those returning wallets were interviewed.

“Just asking them why they did it, that kind of thing,” says Nichol. “What we also did when they returned the wallet was we gave them the money that was in it and we made a donation of $50 to a charity of their choice, and interestingly enough some of the people donated the $100, too.”

Nichol says Credit Unions in Atlantic Canada have honesty, trust and fairness in their DNA and apparently a lot of Atlantic Canadians do as well.
