The New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization is assessing the situation in the province after a powerful storm with torrential rain led to flooding, washouts and then temperatures plummeted in a flash freeze yesterday afternoon.
Director of Communications Robert Duguay says they’re working with NB Power, and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to see if and where repairs are needed after flooding in parts of the province.
“Of course there’s still power outages today, so we’re going to continue follow up with NB Power on the work being done,” says Duguay. “And also on any needs that will be required to assist residents in this matter today.”
Duguay says people should be cautious when driving because roads are going to be slippery.
“Drivers should continue to be careful and should maybe check 511 on GNB website to establish which roads are closed, and to establish the road conditions,” says Duguay.
According to NB 511, in the Moncton district alone, there are 22 road closures, 11 of which are from washouts, and 7 from flooding with the remaining two being defined as “other causes.”
Kay Road, shown below, is suffering from a massive washout right at Sheridan Road near Bouctouche.
