Post-Christmas Cold Snap Hits Region

For those who had hoped for a white Christmas, well your wish came true.

According to Environment Canada, the Moncton region received almost 20 centimetres of snow.

Many families spent the evening digging out from under the white stuff.

Now that the snow has stopped, make sure you have a hat, scarf and gloves if you are headed out.

We are under a special weather statement for this region, but this time, it’s not for snow.

Environment Canada is calling for very cold temperatures and wind chill conditions over the next few days.

Meteorologist Mel Lemmon says temperatures will continues to drop, “With the wind chills, we are looking at approaching minus 25 to minus 30, possibly overnight, and even colder in to the next night.”

This will persist for a few days, and it could continue to be cold as we ring in the new year.

“This cold snap comes as a result of the storm that passed though. It is a very powerful system. Lots of snow for New Brunswick, lots of wind for Nova Scotia and it is just dragging a t of Arctic air behind it,” Lemmon says.

Remember to keep a close eye on elderly neighbours, or those living alone, to ensure that they’re okay.

Bundling up and covering exposed areas if you have to go out, will help prevent any form of frost bite.
