Cloudy Sky Expected For Annual Geminid Meteor Shower

If you happen to be up later tonight, and the skies decide to clear, look up.

Backyard Astronomer Gary Boyle says the annual Geminid meteor shower will peak in the overnight hours tonight, “We see around ten meteor showers each year, but it is considered to be the best of all the meteor showers that we’ve throughout the year. It’s even better than the Perseid Meteor shower that we had in August of this year. We’re going to see 120 meteors per hour, slow, graceful and bright. It really is a must see event.”

Boyle says you will see some meteors starting at around 10pm, but the most will be in the sky after 1am Thursday morning, “You don’t need binoculars or a telescope. They do vaporize in the atmosphere in all directions.”

The forecast for Greater Moncton is currently calling for cloudy skies with a few flurries.
