Five Groups Unite To Oppose Extra-Mural Privatization

Five groups have come together to say “no” to the privatization of the Extra-Mural Program under the management of Medavie.

The Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents’ Rights, the provincial Senior Citizens Federation and three francophone organizations have united to send a clear message to government.

Seniors advocate Cecile Cassista says Extra-Mural must remain in provincial hands.

“This is not about a factory or a fast food service, this is a health care component and we basically want to preserve it as much as we can,” she notes.

Cassista fears the Extra-Mural Program will face similar challenges under the management of Medavie that Ambulance New Brunswick has experienced under the same umbrella for the past ten years.

When the province announced the 10-year Medavie agreement in September, the government said the goal was better coordination and collaboration among health care providers through a team approach.
