The school may have officially opened its doors last week but Ecole Champlain in Moncton’s east end is already getting close to capacity.
The K-8 school now has 780 students and the Francophone South School District expects that number will climb to about 900 by next year.
Superintendent Monique Boudreau says the district education council has asked the province for another new school.
“As for a new school, (it would be located) in the Wheeler Boulevard area near Ecole L’Odyssee and Ecole Le Mascaret are right now. So that would be a K-8 school,” she notes.
Ecole Le Sommet on Ryan Street opened its doors only four years ago and Boudreau adds the school is beyond its capacity and has portable classrooms.
