Public outrage erupted earlier this year after the herbicide glyphosate was sprayed in the Turtle Creek Watershed.
At Council last night, Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold announced a scientific working group has been formed with the province to find a safe solution to our water supply.
“Protecting our water supply is extremely important and we must find a way to eliminate risk in our watershed,” says Arnold. “The three municipalities are aligned on the vital importance of this, and I would like to thank the Province for stepping up in such a significant way.”
She was asked if this group constitutes an admission of the risks the herbicide poses.
“No, no, I would not say that that is the case, but it is an opportunity for all of us to work together and come up with a good solution,” emphasizes Arnold.
The Mayor says the meeting last week included representatives from the Departments of Environment, and Agriculture, as well as the Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health.
