Moncton Loses Bid For 2019 Brier

The City of Moncton will not be hosting the Brier in 2019 afterall.

Mayor Dawn Arnold says everyone is certainly disappointed with the outcome but she is encouraged by Curling Canada’s comments about Moncton’s ability to host such an event in the future.

Upon making its decision, Curling Canada did provide some positive and helpful feedback.

Bid Committee Chairperson Jacques Robichaud says the group felt they put forward a strong bid.

“They (Curling Canada) did in fact say that we presented a strong bid. It’s just that we were out-bid by the winning city which turned out to be Brandon, Manitoba,” he notes.

There is a silver lining since Curling Canada officials are coming to Moncton next month which Robichaud feels bodes well if his group’s partners, the City and the Province, decide to pursue another bid for the 2020 Brier.

Full refunds are being provided for those who bought pre-sale ticket packages.
