The Friends Of The Moncton Hospital Foundation Are Aiming To Raise $600,000 This Year

The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign aims to bring in $600,000.

Co-Chair Pat Armour says they’re hoping to buy five pieces of equipment including a $325,000 “O-Arm Surgical Imaging System” to assist surgeons.

“They get a 3D scan of the patient in seconds, so it’s really going to reduce the surgical time and there’s less anaesthetic, and less blood loss and so on and so forth,” says Armour. “Everyone’s very excited about it.”

Armour says two Electrosurgical Units with Argon capability are on the shopping list at a cost of $110,000 each.

She says these units make it easier for doctors to examine digestive tracts, and remove tumours and polyps.

“There’re about 10,000 patients a year who undergo this procedure here at the Moncton Hospital, and between 4,000 and 5,000 would require the use of this argon gas to cauterize the bleeding,” says Armour.

The final pieces of equipment on the shopping list are two modern Giraffe Infant Warmers for the Labour and Birthing Unit, costing $56,000 each.

“They’ve got the bed, light and warming and oxygen attachment as well, that will be a great advancement because all these things are for newborn babies that have difficulties like right after birth,” says Armour.
