The first accessible baseball field in Atlantic Canada has officially opened at the CN Sportsplex in Moncton.

The Field of Dreams has artificial turf, accessible dugouts, expanded bleachers and designated drop-off areas.

Organizer Charline Allain Godin says the program for special needs children is entering its eighth season and planning for the field began in 2014.
“Every Monday night I get emotional seeing the kids play. Now being able to say that we have our own field and this is our home, it’s truly special,” she says.

The province of New Brunswick, the City of Moncton and the Greater Moncton Field of Dreams Baseball Program each contributed $167,000 to the project.
Other sizeable donations came from the President’s Choice Children’s Charity at $165,000 and the Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation with $125,000.
