Federal health minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor says Canadians are living longer than ever before and those over 65 years of age now outnumber those under the age of 15.
She adds says New Brunswick is ideal for this research with a small population, both linguistic groups, urban and rural areas and many indigenous communities.
The pilot project will involve finding solutions such as helping seniors remain safely in their own homes and encouraging healthy lifestyles.
Starting in July, funding for research projects will be made available for government and non-governmental groups.
