‘A Slap In The Face’: Councillor Shawn Crossman On East End Pool Delays

A ‘slap in the face’ is how Moncton City Councillor Shawn Crossman is describing the continuing delays in getting a long promised East End Pool done.

Crossman fumed over how staff could find $5.4 million for a new beach at Centennial Park, almost $2 million over initial estimates, but appear to be dragging their feet on the East End Pool.

“Quite honestly it’s an insult to the citizens of the East End, not only the citizens [there], but also the citizens of Moncton, and I’ll tell you as an elected official, it’s a true insult to any elected official that brings a project of such importance forward,” says Crossman.

He says this pool has been promised for five years now, and it is a crucial fixture within the East End.

“You know, if it’s not staff’s initiative, it just seems like it’s not going to move forward, and I only brought this project forward based on the conversations had with the community, and the lack of a feature in the community,” says Crossman. “It’s really, truly a slap in the face.”

Crossman says it is clear those who continue to oppose the project don’t seem to have a grasp of the full picture.
