Mark your calendars: We now have a date for when Canadians can legally smoke pot recreationally.
The Trudeau government has just announced that recreational cannabis will be legal in Canada starting on October 17 of this year, which is just about four months away.
This date comes after the Senate vote on Tuesday night, 52-29, to pass the latest version of the long-debated legislation to legalize recreational pot.
The provinces and territories need an eight to 12 week buffer period for implementation.
Canada will become the first G-7 nation and the second country in the world to legalize recreational cannabis.
Cannabis will be legal in Canada beginning on October 17, 2018.
I’m so proud of the Cannabis Act – this historic legislation will end prohibition and replace it with a sensible, responsible and equitable cannabis policy.

I’m thrilled to see that the @SenateCA has approved Bill C-45 – the last step before this important legislation receives Royal Assent. We’re on the cusp of a sensible, responsible and equitable cannabis policy – I look forward to saying more tomorrow morning. #C45
