Man Pleads Guilty To Possessing Contraband Tobacco

A Moncton man has pleaded guilty to possessing more than 58,000 illegal cigarettes.

Joseph Clarence Landry, 51, was driving a truck that was pulled over by police and the Department of Justice and Public Safety in Miramichi last August.

The seizure was made following a five week investigation by the department.

Landry pleaded guilty to charges of possession and transporting unstamped tobacco products in Miramichi court this week.

He was fined almost $77,000 and will return to court in a year when the payment of the fine will be reviewed.
