Human error led to the implementation of a precautionary boil water order for Parlee Beach, according to the Director of Parks and Attractions for the Department of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture.
Allen Bard says an employee turned off a chlorine based filtration system when watering the grass, which prompted the order.
He says it only affects the drinking water.
“The showers, the bathrooms, everything else you can use, wash your hands in the sink, so the only thing you can’t do is drink the water until we get the green light from the Department of Health once we do the test,” says Bard.
He says the staff member was concerned about the chlorine affecting the grass, which Bard says is not a concern as the chlorine would have had no effect.
Bard reiterated the point this was an isolated incident due to a mistake from an employee and they are working with staff to ensure an incident like this doesn’t happen again.
He says the testing will take place Monday, and if they get the all clear, he expects the precautionary boil water advisory to be rescinded on Tuesday.
