The public is being warned about a prepaid credit card and gift card scam by Codiac RCMP.
An investigation began after the barcode on a prepaid credit card was discovered to have been altered prior to being sold.
Upon close examination, the package had been tampered with before being resealed and put back on the shelf.
Police believe the altered barcode could have allowed suspects to gain access to any money loaded onto the card.
A check of the rest of the inventory in the store did not reveal any further altered cards.
Investigators learned this scam has happened in other provinces, most recently in the fall of 2017.
