Premier Gallant Confident Liberals Will Have Strong Candidate In Moncton Centre in September

Premier Brian Gallant says his party looks forward to moving on and recruiting someone to be a strong advocate to carry the Liberal banner in Moncton Centre in the next election.

“Now that we know that Mr. Collins will not re-offer for the Liberal party, we can move on. We already have the names of several people who are interested in running for us, and we are sure that we are going to have a strong candidate there,” Gallant says.

He also maintained that his party needs to do everything they can to promote a harassment free workplace, and they take every allegation seriously.

“We aren’t going to comment any further as it would be inappropriate because there is an investigation, and there is now the potential for pending litigation.”

The Premier stressed that the seat count in the Legislature has never been and never will be a consideration when they are determining what they need to do to ensure a safe workplace and a harassment free workplace.

Speaker Chris Collins issued a statement last night, that he will serve as an Independent for the remainder of his term and that he will not reoffer for the Liberals in September.

This comes after harassment allegations were made against Collins last month.
