RV Fire Spreads to Two Other Buildings

A fire which began in an RV quickly spread to the back of an apartment house and to the front of the MCA building in Moncton early today.

Fire Platoon Chief Rob Brine says the RV was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived in the 300 block of Lutz Street around 4:30am.

“After about 45 minutes or so, we got the fire knocked down and we chased fire extension in the attic of the main building for about another hour or so,” he says.

Brine believes two of the five apartments in the house are a total loss, the front wall of the MCA building (former curling club) was damaged while the RV was destroyed.

Twelve tenants from the apartment house have been displaced and Red Cross volunteers are helping out some of them with emergency food and lodging.

No one was hurt and the cause is under investigation.
