A suspect in yesterday’s deadly van attack in Toronto is scheduled to appear in court today.
Toronto Police have identified him as 25 year old Alek Minassian.

He was arrested a short time after the incident yesterday afternoon.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders says at the point, from a general perspective this attacks looks intentional, “It is very clear from a general perspective that the action look deliberate.”
Security was heightened in Toronto last night. Several streets were closed off.
Canada’s Minister of Public Safety Ralph Goodale spoke with top security officials, with reassurances, “I have had the opportunity to consult with senior officials with the security and police agencies of Canada, and based on the information we have at this time, there appears to be no national security connection in connection with this incident.”
There is currently a G7 meeting of the security ministers in Toronto currently. This incident happened in the midst of that meeting.
Condolences poured in on social media yesterday afternoon and into last night.
Prime Minister Trudeau tweeted, “The hearts and thoughts of an entire country are with the families and friends of those killed in Toronto today. We also wish all those injured a fast and full recovery.”
He also thanked the first responders at the scene.
