Local Organization Assists Women In Prostitution

Street Angels Atlantic is a local organization that helps women whose are working in the sex trade industry.

Volunteers provide purses filled with toiletries and other necessities to those who have have been driven to prostitution as a way to make a living…

“Throughout the day, from morning to night, you’re going to get between 10 and 20 women, but it depends on the day, and the location, and that does not include the online,” says Founder Amanda Newman.

She says there are a number of issues that may drive these women to the streets, “Most are addiction, or abuse. Then you find those who turn to the streets to find their identity because they have such a low self-esteem of themselves.”

Newman recently lost a longtime friend who had chosen prostitution to support her drug habit,”I was very close to her, I had known her for about nine years. This was a young girl who had so much potential. She was especially gifted and very intelligent. Just a beautiful soul. Throughout the years she had tried to get clean, a couple of times. She had gotten housing and really tried to seek out resources and such and she just never got better and finally, her heart just gave out.”

Her ultimate goal is to help get these women off the streets, but she understands it isn’t always easy.

Street Angels Atlantic is always looking for more volunteers, and donations of items that can be given out to the women.
