JD Irving Helps Boys and Girls Club of Moncton Fund ‘Raise The Grade’ Program

After concerns over funding for the Raise the Grade program, the Boys and Girls Club of Moncton is getting some more support.

Communications Director Rebecca Campbell says their five year agreement with Rogers ended last year, and they needed about $155,000 to keep the program going.

Last week, JD Irving CEO Robert Irving announced support to the tune of $30,000 split equally over three years.

“When Mr. Irving came to visit us, to see the pride in his eyes about the impacts being made when he was meeting with our young people it was so special, they were being inspired by one of our community leaders,” says Campbell. “And I think he was being inspired to by the hard work these young people were putting in.”

Campbell says this contribution is in addition to $15,000 per year for two years from RBC, and $125,000 annually for a minimum of two years from the provincial government.

She adds the provincial government gave them the money on a promise the Boys and Girls Club of Moncton would find other funding partners, and they are working towards that goal.

Campbell says the Raise the Grade program impacts about 300 children and youth each year by providing support in various ways relating to academic and mental health, career and future exploration, and the successful graduation of high school with an emphasis on post-secondary education.

100% of students report that within the Raise the Grade program, they are learning to be proud of themselves and confident in their abilities.

Campbell made it clear there were many funding partners, including the province, RBC, the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick, and the City of Moncton.
