During a stop in southern New Brunswick, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denied that his government had anything to do with the Energy East pipeline project being killed off.
The pipeline would have ended in Saint John, less than an hour’s drive from where Trudeau was speaking in Sussex on Thursday and where it was often touted as a major job-creator.
“We have a challenge right now where the company involved decided it was no longer a viable option and stepped away from it,” says Trudeau.
“That was their decision.”
Trudeau says TransCanada was having trouble filling the Keystone XL pipeline and he says there was no business case anymore for Energy East according to the company.
Before the project’s announced demise, TransCanada had suspended its application for 30 days after more stringent environment considerations were to be part of the evaluation.
