As you head out on the roads this weekend, you may come across a police checkpoint or two.
Police forces are taking part in a national traffic safety campaign called Operation Impact.
Sgt. Evan Scott of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force told our newsroom they focus on the four main causes of injuries and deaths on our roads.
“Distracted driving, impaired driving, failure to wear seatbelts, aggressive driving, which also includes speeding and intersection-related violations,” Scott said.
During the first day on Friday, Scott said his officers charged two suspended drivers and one impaired driver, towed five unsafe vehicles, and issued 32 tickets.
Operation Impact Friday Oct 5th day 1:
32 various traffic tickets.

He said drivers have an important role to play in helping to keep our roads safe, such as calling 9-1-1 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
“I’d rather get a call and check the vehicle and find that they’re not impaired rather than find that somebody is impaired,” Scott said.
Operation Impact takes place every Thanksgiving Day long weekend — when the travelling public is out in great numbers.
