Green Party Leader Wants Student Loan Interest Eliminated In New Brunswick

Students are being saddled with a huge amount of debt upon ending their post-secondary education in New Brunswick and the Green party wants something done about it.

Leader David Coon told the Legislature a simple dropping of the interest on provincial student loans would prevent brain drain because now due to high student loan debt, many grads are leaving the province to seek higher paying jobs in order to pay it off.

Coon wants the province to do the same thing as several other provinces and get rid of the interest on student loans saying it would only cost the province $1.8 million annually to do so.
