Gallant Gov’t Releases Budget With No Spending Cuts Or New Taxes

The Gallant government’s latest budget contains no new taxes or spending cuts.

The government will be increasing what it spends on healthcare by 3.3-percent, post-secondary education by 5.4-percent, 4.9-percent more for education and a whopping 17.4-percent more on tourism.

Finance Minster Cathy Rogers is projecting a lower deficit.

“We are now projecting a deficit of $231.1-million for 2016-2017, this is an improvement of $16-million from the budgeted deficit,” she says.

The New Brunswick economy is projected to grow by .6-percent this year and Rogers says New Brunswickers have delivered a clear message on when they want a balanced budget.

“And they want us to return to balance by 2020-2020,” she says.
