MFD Delivers Teddy Bears To Children In Hospital For Christmas

Remember Firemedic Mike Richard who is a Lieutenant with the Moncton Fire Department? Earlier this year, he ran a half marathon in the Legs for Literacy event, while wearing all of his bunker gear. He expressed a desire to raise money to buy teddy bears for the pediatric wards at Moncton Hospitals.

Richard had hoped to raise enough money to buy 40 teddy bears. He surpassed that, raising over $1400, which helped him to purchase 112 bears.

All of the bears were delivered to the Moncton Hospital and Georges Dumont Hospital today. Each child in the two pediatric wards received a bear, and any that were leftover, were left at the hospital, to be given to any children who are admitted in the future.

This is the second year that Richard and his crew (Engine 2, Platoon 3) donated teddy bears to the two hospitals.

Richard says, “It’s never easy being away from home, especially at Christmas. This gives them a little something extra, and will hopefully help them to feel better.”

He is grateful for all of the support and donations he received while fundraising to buy the bears.

Richard is also passing the message of giving down to his two children as well, “They have to know in life that not everyone has the privilege of being home, happy and healthy during the holiday season. I want them to know how important it is to give to others, especially at this time of year.”
