There is a desperate need for school psychologists within the Anglophone East School District.
There’s funding for eight positions but currently only two of those are filled.
Superintendant Gregg Ingersoll says hiring school psychologists has been a hard task.
“We’re definitely in a space where we had to rethink how we do some of the services that psychologists offer. For some reason or another in the last few years we’ve had a diffcult time recruiting psychologists,” he notes.
Ingersoll says there are a couple of factors that have made hiring a challenge.
Salary is one because there are some differences between government departments and because the person hired has to travel to work at a number of schools which makes it hard to recruit new staff as well.
He says next year the model of the work for psychologists is going to change so they’re hoping that will make it easier to attract more to work in the district.
