Senior petroleum analyst Dan McTeague with Gasbuddy.com says OPEC can be blamed on the increase after announcing it would cut oil production.
“A surprise agreement suddenly emerged from OPEC nations. Having said that it’s not clear whether or not this agreement will hold or whether the parties to it will adhere to dropping 1.3 million barrels in production,” he notes.
Diesel and furnace oil prices also jumped by about 4 cents each per litre overnight.
