Premier Mum On Constitutionality Of Free Tuition For Some Students But Not All

Because of an impending court challenge, Premier Brian Gallant won’t talk about whether his legislation on free tuition is constitutional.

A lawsuit to be filed this week claims it is not because students from low and middle income households who want to attend private learning institutions for their post secondary education are excluded.

Saint John East M-L-A Glen Savoie says the Conservatives want the programme to be expanded. He accuses the provincial Liberals ob being more interested in scoring a political win.

The President of the New Brunswick Association of Private Colleges and Universities, Dale Ritchie says their students have been disenfranchised.

In a touch of irony, the legislation brought forth by a Liberal government is being challenged by two former provincial Liberal cabinet ministers, Mike Murphy and Kelly Lamrock, on behalf of private colleges and universities in the province.
