“Free Tuition” Program Faces Legal Challenge

Two former Liberal cabinet ministers will challenge the provincial Liberal government’s Tuition Access Bursary in the Court of Queen’s Bench.

Moncton lawyer Mike Murphy and former Education Minister Kelly Lamrock will file an application on behalf of the Association of Private Colleges and Universities of New Brunswick. Murphy calls the programme “misconceived and unconstitutional” because it discriminates against students who attend private colleges and universities.

The programme offers free tuition for students whose families earn less than 60 thousand dollars a year. In order to qualify, they have to attend a public college or university.
