Climate Change Committee Hears Business Case For Energy Efficiency

The province’s Climate Change Committee heard the business case why energy efficiency should be a priority for industry.

The President of Energy Performance Services, Peter Bassett says energy efficiency should be treated the same as workplace safety. He warns those businesses that don’t have a plan to be more energy efficient could go belly up, pointing to the fact the pulp and paper mills that closed in New Brunswick just happened to have the highest usage of energy.

Bassett says management has to have a structured plan in place for energy efficiency. He expressed disappointment Efficiency NB was let go saying it had achieved international recognition.

Provincial Green Party leader David Coon claims the problem is energy efficiency isn’t sexy enough for politicians.
