Small Online Businesses Already Feeling Impact Of Potential Canada Post Work Stoppage

Local small business owners, that rely on online sales, are already feeling the impact of a potential lockout of Canada Post workers.

Kerri Steeves owns a children’s clothing business called Monkey Bum Designs, and a large percentage of her sales are online to other parts of Canada and the United States, “I actually shut down my website and my Etsy store last week because I didn’t want any customers parcels to be held up or lost in the mail,” she says.

Steeves says she relies on her two online businesses to pay the bills and put food on the table for her family and she will have to look at alternatives, .if their is a work stoppage, “For a small business that relies on shipping orders, it is definitely going to have a financial impact on me.”

There are other ways of shipping her products, but Steeves says most of her customers aren’t willing to pay higher fees to have their items sent out, “For me, my price ranges, the average is around $10 to $12, so most customers aren’t willing to pay a higher fee to ships their items,” she says.
