The President of HBB Medical Incorporated, a medical marijuana dispensary in Fredericton, says marijuana should be legalized and believes the stigma surrounding it has reduced drastically over the last decade.
President Hank Merchent says Atlantic Canada is slowly catching up with the rest of the country in terms of realizing the importance of medical marijuana.
Merchent says he hears from patients everyday who thank him for helping them receive their medications.
Patients don’t just smoke marijuana, they use edibles, oils and creams that treat the after effects of chemotherapy.
Medical marijuana has been proven to help restore their appetite and prevents nausea as well.
Merchent uses one patient with MS as an example who couldn’t speak or get in his own wheelchair without the help of his family, and weeks after starting treatment he came in and was a completely changed man, which Merchent calls “amazing to witness”.
