Cabinet Minister Says He Understands Frustrations In Sussex

Provincial Economic Development Minister Rick Doucet says he can understand where Sussex businesspeople are coming from. They don’t understand why shale gas development can’t continue in Penobsquis where the wells have been operating since the early 1990’s.

Doucet says there are five conditions that have to be met first, one of which is social licence. He adds those conditions were recommended by the Independent Commission on fracking and were accepted by the provincial government.

He calls hydraulic fracturing as part of shale gas development to be a polarising issue.
