“Brexit” Uncertainty Is Bad For Business In The United Kingdom

Uncertainty is bad for business, according to the Canadian born Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a New York based startup.

PEI native JF Brandon holds dual citizenship with the United Kingdom and Canada.

He says BotFactory’s 3D printers are currently certified for Europe wide sale by a UK distributor, products are currently certified under European Law, not home country law.

Brandon adds the UK’s exit decision throws that certification into confusion.

“The products that we sell to Europe through England, how is it certified?” says Brandon. “I talked to one of our distributors in England, and he doesn’t know, nobody knows. Uncertainty is the worst possible thing you can have in business, you want to have clear understanding of how things are going to be going.”

Brandon says he’s going to stop using the UK as a gateway to European markets.

“I’m going to find a different way of getting into Europe directly, I don’t want to deal with the uncertainty,” says Brandon “I know that France, Germany and Italy aren’t going anywhere, they’re not going to split, although that is also a potential, but at this time it’s not as clear they’re going to leave as England has made it clear.”

Brandon says the “Leave Campaign” doesn’t seem to understand by leaving the EU, they are increasing the cost of business.

“They completely ignored the fact that doing the cost of business, half of it is just not having to deal with red tape,” states Brandon. “By leaving European Union they’ve added an extra wall of trade barriers and bureaucracy of British business going into Europe.”

Brandon adds it’s as yet unclear if the EU will permit continued trade under relaxed restrictions, or if they will tighten up trade rules with the UK in order to set an example that leaving the EU does have consequences.
