An increase of 10% in the use of shelters in the Hub City last year according to a new report from the Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee.
862 unique individuals used shelters, up from 780 in 2014, with an additional 107 women fleeing domestic violence.
Those numbers are from the Ninth Report Card on Homelessness.
Some good news last year however, with Crossroads for Women adding five bachelor units for vulnerable women, and the YWCA fundraising to build housing for young, pregnant teens.
The federal Liberals also promised to reinvest in social housing, but no action from them yet which leaves the provincial government in a “holding pattern” waiting for money to flow.
In bad news, no new units were added to the Affordable Housing Inventory in Moncton.
The full report card is being released next Monday at 7:30AM during a Community Breakfast at Saint George’s Anglican Church on 51 Church street.
