Is Greater Moncton Experiencing A Spike In Crime?

Is Greater Moncton experiencing a rise in the crime rate?

Codiac RCMP Superintendent Paul Beauchesne says without detailed analysis it’s likely remaining consistent year over year.

He adds not seeing officers frequently is generally a good thing.

“The other thing that you’ll see is that you don’t see a lot of police officers, and I will tell you that’s a good sign,” says Beauchesne. “When you don’t see us that’s a good sign because strategically what we’re trying to do is put the police officers where the criminality is.”

Beauchesne says with half a dozen robberies in the last week, he wanted to note several arrests have been made, and officers are working diligently to catch everyone involved.

He adds, one factor that might be affecting a potential rise in the crime rate is that Moncton is continually growing, and with an increased population comes an increased risk of crime.
