It’s International Women’s Day!

In a recent report, the Common Front For Social Justice examined women’s employment, and access to the labour market over the past ten years..

Provincial Secretary Chantal Landry says, “In order to recognize the different challenges that women have had in history and all of the challenges they’ve overcome, so there’s still a lot of work to do.”

Landry says, “They found that women have taken a few steps forward, but also a few back as well. There has been a significant increase in women working full time jobs, mostly in the public sector, which is phenomenal. A few steps back would be, the number of women in full time jobs has doubled, which the number has tripled for part time jobs.”

She says for the most part, women have more barriers, because they have more responsibility overall. Landry says many of the traditional family roles, such as parenting fall on the women as well, adding even more stress.

Overall, the report found, that women have made some headway over the past ten years but they still have a long way to go.
